Это огромный зверь был гигантского ленивца, то есть настолько большой ленивец, что не мог лазить по деревьям. Как вы можете видеть, он мог стоять на двух лапах, но несколько учёных считают, что он даже был четвероногий. Сверх того, благодаря своему передним лапам длинным 2м и снабжавшим большими и длинными когтями (в дополнение к громадной комплекции, очевидно), он мог оглушать любого хищника, например саблезубые кошки, волки (тем не менее, наймолодшие или тоже больные экземпляры были лёгка добычу)... Помимо этого, ну, он жил во время Плейстоцена в Америках (и Южная и Северная), достигал 6 метров в длину и весил 3-4 тонн. Учитывая, что он предок современных ленивцев, он является неотъемлемой частью подотряда Folivora: в самом деле он питался листьями, травой, фруктами, корнями, ростками и кустарниками, в особенности (но несколько учёных думают, что время от времени он тоже ел остовы, нечто которое я даже сомневаюсь). Своего останки были нашедшие в Южной Америке.



In a corner, not far from the Glyptodon, is the silhouette of a very big animal called Megatherium (Megatherium americanum, «large beast» in ancient Greek). This huge beast was a giant ground sloth, that is a so large sloth that couldn't climb on trees. As you can see, it was able to stand on two legs, but some scientists think it was even quadrupedal. Furthermore, thanks to its fore paws 2m long and endowed with big and long claws (in addition to an enormous physique, obviously), it could knock out any predator, such as saber-toothed tigers, wolves (nevertheless, the youngest or ill specimens, too, were an easy prey)... Apart from this, well, it lived during Pleistocene in the Americas (both Southern and Northern America), it reached 6 metres in lenght and it weighed 3 or 4 tons. Considering that it's the ancestor of the sloths of today, it's part with parcel of suborder Folivora: indeed it fed mainly on leaves, grass, fruits, roots, sprouts and shrubbery (however some scholars assert that it also ate carcasses, from time to time, something I doubt as well). Its remains were discovered in the Southern America.



In un angolo, non lontano dal gliptodonte, c'è la sagoma di un grosso animale chiamato Megaterio (Megatherium americanum, «grande bestia» in greco antico). Questo bestione era un bradipo gigante di terra, cioè un bradipo così grande che non riusciva ad arrampicarsi sugli alberi. Come potete vedere, era in grado di stare su due zampe, ma alcuni scienziati ritengono che fosse pure quadrupede. Oltretutto, grazie agli arti anteriori lunghi 2m e provvisti di grandi e lunghi artigli (oltre a una stazza colossale, ovviamente), poteva mandare k.o. qualsiasi predatore, tipo tigri dai denti a sciabola, lupi (ciononostante, gli esemplari più giovani o anche malati erano una facile preda)... A parte questo, beh, visse durante il Pleistocene nelle Americhe (sia meridionale che settentrionale), raggiungeva i 6 metri di lunghezza e pesava 3-4 tonnellate. Considerando che è il progenitore dei bradipi di oggi, è parte integrante del sottordine dei Folivora: infatti si nutriva principalmente di foglie, erba, frutta, radici, germogli e arbusti (tuttavia degli studiosi sostengono che occasionalmente mangiasse carcasse, cosa della quale dubito anche io). I suoi resti furono rinvenuti in Sud America.
