Paraceratherium/Indricotherium transouralicum

Это огромное животное - Индрикотерий (Indricotherium или тоже Paraceratherium transouralicum). Он казался гигантского носорога без рогов, более или менее, и он жил в равнинах которые сегодня составляют Центральную Азию, от 30 до 20 млн лет назад. Он распространился в среднем олигоцене и он гаснул в миоцене эпохе. Он - самое большое наземное млекопитающее когда-либо существовавший, высокий от 5,50 м до 8 м, длинный самое большее 10 м, и тяжёлый до более 20 тонн. В итоге это гигант был больший слона, мамонта и (сегодня) даже жирафа. Он был травоядный, и он питался листьями деревьев, благодаря своей длинной шее (1,20 м). Таксономия рода Indricotherium ещё не устоялась, хотя виды этого рода являются общепризнанными.



This huge animal is a Paraceratherium, or Indricotherium (Paraceratherium transouralicum). It seemed a gigantic hornless rhinoceros, more or less, and it lived on the plains that today form Central Asia, between 30 and 20 mln years ago. It spread out during the Upper Oligocene and it became extinct in the Miocene age. It's the largest land mammal ever existed, high from 5.5 to 8 metres, 10m long at the most, and it could be even heavier than 20 tons. In short, this giant was bigger than an elephant, a mammoth and (nowadays) even a giraffe. It was a herbivore, and it fed on leaves from trees, thanks to its long neck (1.2 m). Taxonomy of the genus Indricotherium isn't established once and for all yet, even though specimens of this genus are widely recognized.



Questo enorme animale è un Indricoterio, o Paraceraterio (Paraceratherium/Indricotherium transouralicum). Sembrava un gigantesco rinoceronte senza corna, più o meno, e viveva nelle pianure che oggi compongono l'Asia Centrale, tra i 30 e i 20 milioni di anni fa. Si diffuse nell' Oligocene superiore, e si estinse nell'epoca del Miocene. E' il più grosso mammifero di terra che sia mai esistito, alto tra i 5,50m e i 8m, lungo al massimo 10m, e pesante fino a più di 20 tonnellate. Insomma, questo gigante era più grande di un elefante, di un mammuth e (oggigiorno) persino di una giraffa. Era un erbivoro, e si nutriva delle foglie degli alberi, grazie al suo lungo collo (1,20m). La tassonomia del genere Indricotherium non è ancora stata stabilita definitivamente, anche se gli esemplari di questo genere sono stati generalmente riconosciuti.
